Anthropic has just unveiled a significant redesign of the Claude Code desktop app, geared specifically to empower developers in managing multiple AI agent tasks simultaneously. This update focuses on enhancing the workflow for agentic coding, moving beyond single-prompt interactions to a more dynamic, parallel processing environment. You can read more about this exciting release in their blog post about the Claude Code Desktop Redesign.
What's New in the Desktop Experience
The redesigned Claude Code desktop app is packed with features that streamline the developer experience. A brand-new sidebar allows you to manage multiple active and recent sessions in one place, making it easy to jump between different projects and tasks as results come in. The entire workspace is now incredibly flexible, featuring a drag-and-drop layout that lets you arrange panes like the integrated terminal, file editor, diff viewer, and chat to perfectly match your workflow.
Beyond layout customization, the app now brings core development tools right into your agentic sessions. You can run tests or builds directly within the app using the integrated terminal, make quick adjustments with the in-app file editor, and review code changes more efficiently with a faster diff viewer. The app also supports expanded preview capabilities for HTML files, PDFs, and even local application servers, all within the same interface.
Powering Parallel Agentic Workflows
This redesign truly shines in how it supports the evolving nature of agentic coding. Developers are no longer just sending one prompt and waiting; they're often juggling multiple operations—initiating a refactor in one repository, fixing a bug in another, and generating tests in a third. The new app is built to facilitate this "orchestrator" role, allowing you to oversee multiple AI agents in flight, intervening and steering them as needed.
The desktop app now boasts feature parity with CLI plugins, ensuring a consistent experience whether you're using the desktop app or command-line tools. Furthermore, SSH support has been extended to Mac users, complementing the existing Linux support, so you can connect to remote machines from either platform. To help manage information overload, there are three view modes—Verbose, Normal, and Summary—giving you control over the level of detail from Claude's tool calls. Plus, new keyboard shortcuts (like ⌘ + / or Ctrl + /) and a usage button for at-a-glance context window and session usage make navigation and monitoring a breeze.
